Tetlow Legal is operational and continuing to assist our clients, please read this notice.

For the benefit and protection of our clients, Tetlow Legal applies the Verification of Identity Standards for all legal transactions, including the release of documents from our safe custody facility.

We require all clients to be identified prior to transactions by presenting Acceptable Identity Documents (see table below) to our office. If you are unable to attend our office in person, please refer to the instructions below.

 

Identification Locally

Please bring original and current Acceptable Identity Documents to your first appointment with Tetlow Legal.

 

Identification Interstate

If you are unable to attend our office then you will need to book and complete a Verification of Identity check with a participating Australia Post outlet.

You will need to bring to the Australia Post appointment:-

  • Original and current Acceptable Identity Documents;
  • a Witnessing Certification (to be provided to you by Tetlow Legal) to be completed and signed by the Officer; and
  • The $39.00 verification fee which can be paid using cash, EFTPOS, MasterCard or Visa.

 

Identification Overseas

If you are unable to attend our office, and are currently overseas, then you will need to have your identity verified by an Australian Consular Officer or an Australian Diplomat Officer.

You will need to take to that appointment:-

  • Original and current Acceptable Identity Documents; and
  • a Witnessing Certification (to be provided to you by Tetlow Legal) to be completed and signed by the Officer.

You will need to return the original Witnessing Certification, together with the certified identity documents, to Tetlow Legal.

 

ACCEPTABLE IDENTITY DOCUMENTS

The documents listed in Category 1 should be used where possible. If these documents are unavailable then proceed to use Category 2 to Category 4 documents.

Category 1 to 4 documents are for Australian citizens or residents. A translation will be required for any passport, drivers licence or birth certificate not in English.

 FOR AUSTRALIAN CITIZENS OR RESIDENTS:
Category 11.       Australian passport OR Foreign passport with Australian residents visa label* AND

2.       Australian driver’s licence OR Proof of Age card / Photo Card (issued by a state or territory)

3.       If applicable: Change of Name documentation

Category 21.       Australian passport OR Foreign passport with Australian residents visa label* AND

2.       Birth Certificate OR Citizenship Certificate AND

3.       Medicare card OR Centrelink card OR Department of Veteran Affairs card

4.       If applicable: Change of Name documentation

Category 31.       Australian driver’s licence OR Proof of Age card / NSW Photo card (issued by a state or territory) AND

2.       Birth Certificate OR Citizenship Certificate AND

3.       Medicare card OR Centrelink card OR Department of Veteran Affairs card

4.       If applicable: Change of Name documentation

Category 41.       Declaration of Identity^ (issued in last 3 months) AND

2.       Birth Certificate or Citizenship Certificate AND

3.       Medicare card OR Centrelink card OR Department of Veteran Affairs card

4.       If applicable: Change of Name documentation

^speak to Tetlow Legal regarding the requirements for a Declaration of Identity

 FOR PERSONS WHO ARE NOT AUSTRALIAN CITIZENS OR RESIDENTS:
Category 52.       Foreign passport AND

3.       Australian driver’s licence OR Proof of Age card / Photo Card (issued by a state or territory) OR Birth Certificate AND

4.       Medicare Card OR Centrelink Card OR Department of Veteran Affairs card OR Foreign government issued identity document

5.       If applicable: Change of Name documentation

 

If you have been identified by Tetlow Legal previously then it is not necessary for your identity to be verified again if that verification occurred within the previous 24 months.
